VOC Certification

Any organic liquid and/or solid that evaporates spontaneously at the prevailing temperature and pressure of the atmosphere with which it is in contact (Source: BSEN ISO 11890).

The monitoring of Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) content in office furniture has become increasingly important in recent years, with emphasis placed on the formaldehyde content in materials used. With this in mind, Orangebox has completed substantial VOC testing on its product portfolio, with ALL seating & solid wood products receiving ETL Environmental VOC+ certification. To achieve this VOC+ certification, products underwent and passed ANSI/ BIFMA e3-2014e Furniture Sustainability Standard (Credits 7.6.1, 7.6.2, and 7.6.3) for Office Furniture Systems and Components emission criteria. Credit 7.6.3 conforms to California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard Method v1.1 01350 (2010).

LEEDv4 (US, Europe & Global)

The Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED™) Green Building Rating System® is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings.

The ETL Environmental VOC Mark for indoor air quality is on USGBC’s list of acceptable certification programs for LEEDv4 EQ Credit: Low-Emitting Materials. All Orangebox products with this qualify.

BRE–BREEAM (UK, Europe & Global)

While points scoring accreditation relates to the building itself, points may be available if products are specified that meet the requirements of Health and Wellbeing section on Hea 02 Indoor Air Quality. Products with VOC+ certification meet with criteria laid out in the accreditation, also all of our wood panels are E1 classified so would also meet the required criteria.

Orangebox products do not contain any substances regulated by the Dangerous Substances Directive 2004/42/CE, which could cause harm to people by inhalation or contact; materials containing heavy metals (e.g. antimony, barium, cadmium, lead and mercury) and other toxic elements (e.g. arsenic, chromium and selenium) or regulated biocides (e.g. pentachlorophenol).

Estidama – Pearl Rating System (Abu Dhabi & Middle East)

Points may be awarded under the LBi-2.5 Material Emissions: Formaldehyde Reduction section. All wood used within Orangebox products is E1 classified. The ETL Environmental VOC+ certification for our products also proves our commitment to the reduction and monitoring of VOCs within our products.

GBCA – Green Star (Australasia & South Africa)

Green Star is an internationally-recognised sustainability rating system that sets best practice benchmarks for the design, construction, and operation of buildings, fit-outs and communities.

Orangebox products conform to the criteria in IEQ-12 Credit: Formaldehyde Minimisation, due to the wood used in products being E1 classified or higher. Individual product VOC certification can also prove the low, if any, levels of formaldehyde are present.

WELL Building Standard™ (WELL)
